President & CEO

With over 25 years of experience, Wadih has been involved in every aspect of building design, project management and development. Wadih received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Technical University of Nova Scotia and a Diploma of Engineering from Dalhousie University. Fares wanted to create a company that would bring all of the disciplines involved in a development project together under one roof. The result was WM Fares Group, a company started with the philosophy that customers crave simplicity. Wadih’s goal was to rid his customers of the challenges and stresses of dealing with multiple consultants and contractors and give them a much more comfortable and convenient experience.

Since that time, Wadih has led his team of professional engineers, architects, planners and supporting staff to the successful completion of many major projects. These include hospitality, multi-unit residential and commercial projects throughout the Maritime Provinces, Ontario and Alberta. He has also shared this expertise with others in the industry, through his membership with the Association of Professional Engineers in Nova Scotia, and past membership in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Alberta and Ontario. Wadih was also a Councillor for the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia Halifax Area Representative.

For as long as Wadih has been developing the buildings in which people live and work, he has worked to develop the communities united within them. As a Lebanese immigrant, he believes strongly in celebrating the unique talents and contributions everyone brings to this province and country. That belief is evident in the long list of positions he has held over the years, including: member of the Board of Directors for the Halifax Chamber of Commerce; founder and principal of the Lebanese Language School; founding member and president of the Heritage Language Association of Nova Scotia; president of the Multicultural Association of Nova Scotia (MANS); Halifax Mayor's Advisory Committee; Federal Business Development Bank's Multicultural Advisory Committee; president of the board of the Atlantic Multicultural Council; chairperson of the Nova Scotia Advisory Committee on Multiculturalism; and member of the Board of Directors for Metro United Way.

In addition to his work, Wadih continues his tradition of giving back to the community through a wide range of roles, including: Honourary Consul of Lebanon for the Maritime Provinces for the past 12 years; Capital Campaign Chair for the Bella Rose Theatre Project; founder and honourary member of the Canadian Lebanese Chamber of Commerce. Wadih currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Halifax International Airport Authority; Waterfront Development Corporation Limited; The Atlantic Institute For Market Studies. He is past chair and Director on the Board of Pier 21 Society. Under Wadih’s leadership Pier 21 was recognized as a national historic museum, the sixth in Canada and only the second located outside of Ottawa. He is also a member of the Dalhousie University Board of Governors and the Minister’s Immigration Advisory Council.

Wadih has been recognized for his many achievements, including: The Salvation Army Great Stocking Stuffer Champion 2009; Family SOS Ambassador 2010; Atlantic Business Magazine's Top 50 CEO Award recipient in 2008 and 2009; Business to Consumer Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2008. Wadih was inducted as Laureate of the Junior Achievement Nova Scotia Business Hall of Fame in 2008; Big Brothers / Big Sisters Community Mentoring Award 2008; The Golden Jubilee Medal Award by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; Saint Mary’s University Association Alumni Award 2007; Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia Citizenship Award 2005.

In the spring of 2009, Wadih was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Commerce from St. Mary’s University, and recently his Excellency Archbishop Youseff Khoury presented Wadih with the Order of St. Gregory, an honor conferred upon him by Pope Benedict XVI.
